Ingredients

  • 2 cups macaroni (uncooked)
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 12 ounces cottage cheese
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 2 to 3 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni until al dente; drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, melt the margarine and sauté chopped onion until translucent.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned; drain excess grease.
  4. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic salt, and tomato sauce; simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine cooked macaroni with cottage cheese and sour cream.
  6. Spread half of the macaroni mixture into a greased casserole dish.
  7. Top with half of the grated cheese.
  8. Repeat layers with remaining macaroni mixture and cheese.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 40 minutes until bubbly and golden.
