Tips & Substitutions

For best results, use fresh shrimp as their flavor is unmatched. If unavailable, frozen shrimp works too; just ensure they are fully thawed before marinating. You can substitute the dark corn syrup with honey or agave syrup for a lighter sweetness. Adjust the garlic to your preference, and feel free to add a pinch of cayenne for a spicy kick. For a twist, consider pairing this dish with a side of Tuna Shoe String Salad.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these speared shrimp hot off the grill, garnished with extra parsley for color. They pair wonderfully with lemon wedges, which enhance the shrimp's flavor when squeezed over the top. For a complete meal, consider serving alongside a fresh salad or grilled vegetables. This dish also complements well with seafood recipes, making it a versatile addition to your summer gatherings.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover grilled shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, gently warm them in a skillet over medium heat for a few minutes or until heated through, taking care not to overcook them, which can make them rubbery. Avoid reheating in the microwave, as this can lead to uneven heating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen shrimp for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen shrimp; just ensure they are fully thawed before preparing. Thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or submerge them in cold water for about 15-20 minutes. This will ensure they cook evenly and retain their flavor during grilling.

How long do I need to marinate the shrimp?

Marinating the shrimp for at least 1 hour is ideal to allow the flavors to penetrate. If you have more time, feel free to marinate for up to 4 hours in the refrigerator for an even richer taste. Just avoid marinating for too long, as the acidity can start to cook the shrimp.

What can I serve with the speared shrimp?

These speared shrimp are fantastic on their own, but they also pair beautifully with a variety of sides. Consider serving with a light salad, grilled corn, or even a refreshing side like Gramona'S Rice And Tuna Casserole. For a more substantial meal, you might complement them with crusty bread or rice pilaf.
