Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Chill the dough for 1 hour.
  3. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls.
  4. Roll each ball in sugar.
  5. Place the balls 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 375°F for 9 to 11 minutes.
