  • 3 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 pound shaved deli ham
  • 1 pound Swiss cheese

  2. Freeze the dinner rolls until they are hard, then slice them lengthwise like a big sandwich bun.
  3. Spread the mustard mixture on the bottom of the rolls.
  4. Layer Swiss cheese, shaved deli ham, and more cheese on the rolls.
  5. Spread the rest of the mustard mixture on the underside of the rolls.
  6. Spread a little mixture on top of the assembled sandwich.

  8. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
  9. Slice into individual sandwiches and serve.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using unsalted butter in place of margarine. You can substitute the Swiss cheese with cheddar for a sharper taste. If you're short on time, the mustard mixture can marinate for just a few hours instead of overnight. To add a bit of heat, try adding a dash of cayenne pepper or some sliced jalapeños to the ham layers.

Serving Suggestions

Serve spiced ham rolls as a delicious appetizer or as part of a brunch spread alongside Potato Breakfast Casserole. They pair well with a fresh green salad or some tangy coleslaw. For a fun twist, consider serving them with a selection of dipping sauces like honey mustard or barbecue sauce.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover spiced ham rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes until warmed through. You can also microwave them for a quicker option, but they may lose some crispness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these rolls ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the rolls and assemble them a day in advance. Just cover them tightly and refrigerate. When ready to serve, bake them according to the recipe instructions. This makes them perfect for parties or gatherings.

What can I use instead of deli ham?

If you prefer a different protein, sliced turkey or roast beef can work well as substitutes. For a vegetarian option, consider using roasted vegetables or a plant-based deli meat that complements the cheese.

Can these rolls be frozen?

Absolutely! You can freeze the assembled rolls before baking. Just wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and foil. When you're ready to enjoy them, bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
