Ingredients

  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • 3 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups split peas
  • 1/2 cup barley
  • 3/4 cup carrots, diced
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 large celery stalk, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

  1. Put all ingredients in a 3 or 4-quart pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 1 hour until peas begin to fall apart when stirred and barley and vegetables are tender.
