Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped suet
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • little salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • flour (to make quite stiff)

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Fill cans half full with the mixture.
  3. Cover the cans with tinfoil.
  4. Steam the cans for 2 to 3 hours, setting them in water.
  5. Remove from water and let cool.
  6. Slice cold and steam before serving.
