Sweet & sour pickles offer a tangy, sweet flavor with fresh dill and crunchy cucumbers, perfect for those who enjoy bold, homemade preserved vegetables.

Ingredients

  • medium cucumbers
  • 1 onion
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 8 heads fresh dill
  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 quart vinegar
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Wash cucumbers and cut into chunks, enough to fill 4 quarts.
  2. Add 3 or 4 slices of onion, 2 pieces of celery, and 2 heads of dill to each jar.
  3. Dissolve sugar and salt in vinegar and water; bring to a boil.
  4. Place cucumbers in jars, then cover with hot sugar, salt, vinegar, and water.
  5. Seal the jars at once.
  6. Allow to sit for 30 days before using for best results.
