Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the Tortilla Stack ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the stack a few hours in advance. Just cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate. This allows the flavors to meld, enhancing the overall taste. Just remember to add the toppings like olives just before serving to keep them fresh.

What can I substitute for the refried beans?

If you want a lighter option, consider using black beans or pinto beans instead. You can mash them lightly for a similar texture or keep them whole for a heartier bite. For a vegetarian twist, try using a bean dip or hummus as a base layer.

Can I freeze the Tex-Mex Tortilla Stack?

Freezing is not recommended for this dish, as the tortillas can become soggy when thawed. However, you can freeze individual components, like the chicken or beans, and assemble the stack fresh when you're ready to enjoy it.
