- Heat milk and cocoa together until warm.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Combine cooled chocolate mixture with buttermilk.
- Sift together flour, soda, and baking powder.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk mixture, then add vanilla.
- Pour batter into two greased 8 or 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool, then cover with Seven Minute Icing.
