Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
  • 1 teaspoon butter flavoring
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 cups flour, sifted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour the cake pan.
  2. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. Blend sugar, butter, and Crisco with a mixer until creamy.
  4. Add half the eggs and half the milk to the mixture, then add the sifted flour, alternating until combined.
  5. Add vanilla and butter flavorings to the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from oven, dump the cake onto a rack to cool, then invert onto a plate to finish cooling.
