Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening or oil
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp. dry cocoa

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Prepare 3 layer pans by greasing them.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, shortening, and beaten eggs.
  4. Add flour, baking powder, and spices alternately with milk until well mixed.
  5. Pour 2/3 of the batter into 2 greased layer pans.
  6. To the remaining batter, mix in 1 tablespoon of cocoa dissolved in boiling water, and pour it into the third greased pan.
  7. Bake all layers for about 20 minutes.
  8. Once cooled, frost with Mocha Icing between the layers and on top.
