- Pour hot water and baking soda over the chopped dates and allow to sit.
- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add beaten eggs, orange rind, and orange juice to the creamed mixture and mix well.

- Pour batter into a greased baking pan.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
