Ingredients

  • 3 lb. venison steak
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 lb. ham
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 qt. water
  • 1 tsp. onion soup mix
  • 1 tsp. parsley flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. rosemary
  • 6 c. mashed potatoes
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Combine salt, pepper, and flour in a bag.
  2. Add venison cubes; shake to coat.
  3. In a large skillet, melt butter and brown the venison and ham over medium heat.
  4. Add water, onion soup mix, parsley flakes, and rosemary. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours, adding more water if necessary to keep the meat submerged.
  5. Whip together mashed potatoes and eggs until smooth.
  6. Spread 4 cups of the potato mixture over the bottom and sides of an oiled 8 x 14 x 2-inch baking dish.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
  8. Fill the dish with the venison mixture, then top with the remaining potatoes.
  9. Bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden and heated through.
