Ingredients

  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp. chocolate syrup
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, sugar, and soda.
  2. Bring to a boil the margarine, chocolate syrup, water, and Crisco.
  3. Mix together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla and add to the boiling mixture.
  4. Mix all ingredients until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F until the cake is done, about 30 minutes.
  7. Cover the cake with glaze while it is still warm.
