Instructions

  1. Mix the white sugar, brown sugar, Crisco oil, Crisco, egg, and sour cream well.
  2. Add the flour, baking soda, salt, vanilla, corn flakes, oatmeal, coconut, and chocolate chips to the mixture; stir until combined.

  4. Pat down the balls slightly.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes.

Tips & Substitutions

For a chewier texture, consider substituting half the white sugar with brown sugar. Experiment with different mix-ins, such as nuts or dried fruits, to customize the flavor. If you prefer a less sweet cookie, reduce the sugar by 1/4 cup. Be careful not to overbake; cookies should remain soft as they continue to firm up while cooling.

Serving Suggestions

These cookies are perfect on their own or served alongside a glass of cold milk. For a delightful dessert platter, pair them with slices of Butterscotch Coffee Cake or a warm piece of Maple Walnut Cake. They also make a great addition to any lunchbox or picnic spread.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze the cookies in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to three months. To enjoy them warm, reheat in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of oil instead of Crisco oil?

Yes, you can substitute Crisco oil with any neutral oil such as vegetable or canola oil. However, using Crisco will provide a slightly different texture and flavor, so keep that in mind when making substitutions.

What can I substitute for the sour cream?

If you don't have sour cream, plain yogurt or buttermilk can be excellent substitutes. Both will help maintain moisture in the cookies and provide a similar tangy flavor.

Can I make these cookies gluten-free?

Absolutely! You can replace the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Ensure that the blend contains xanthan gum or add it separately to help with the cookie structure.
