- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Grease a sheet or cake pan.
- Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Blend in oats, brown sugar, and margarine until crumbly.
- Press half of the mixture into the prepared pan.
- Spread peeled and chopped apples over the layer.
- Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1/2 cup sugar, and dot with 3 tablespoons of butter.
- Cover with the remaining oat mixture.
- Sprinkle with remaining nuts and sugar.
- Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Cut into squares while warm and serve.
