Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 4 apples peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Grease a sheet or cake pan.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Blend in oats, brown sugar, and margarine until crumbly.
  5. Press half of the mixture into the prepared pan.
  6. Spread peeled and chopped apples over the layer.
  7. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1/2 cup sugar, and dot with 3 tablespoons of butter.
  8. Cover with the remaining oat mixture.
  9. Sprinkle with remaining nuts and sugar.
  10. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  11. Cut into squares while warm and serve.
