Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb hamburger
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • a sprinkle of nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups cottage cheese
  • 1 egg
  • oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 oz jumbo macaroni (18 shells)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook chopped onion, minced garlic, and hamburger until meat is browned.
  2. Pour off any excess fat.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and oregano.
  4. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, mix cottage cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Spread 2 1/2 cups of the tomato sauce mixture in a baking dish.
  8. Fill each cooked macaroni shell with the cheese mixture and arrange them in the baking dish.
  9. Top the shells with the remaining sauce.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly and heated through.
