Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, beaten egg, salt, pepper, and half of the tomato sauce.
  2. Form into a loaf and place in a shallow 7 x 10-inch baking pan.
  3. Combine the remaining tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to make the sauce mixture.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the loaf.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
