Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef, cut in 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/3 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. chili powder

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef in shortening in a skillet.
  2. Add water and simmer in a covered skillet for 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and cook until tender.
  4. Add more water if needed.
  5. Serve on buns.
