Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 (14 oz) package macaroni and cheese deluxe dinner
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs beaten

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet; drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion to the beef and cook until tender.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, cinnamon, and ground nutmeg; simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Prepare the macaroni and cheese dinner according to package instructions.
  5. Spread the beef mixture evenly into a 9-inch square baking dish.
  6. Top with the prepared macaroni and cheese.
  7. In a saucepan, melt margarine over low heat.
  8. Blend in flour to make a roux.
  9. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  10. Mix a small amount of hot mixture into the beaten eggs, then return this to the saucepan.
  11. Pour the cheese sauce over the macaroni layer.
  12. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese.
  13. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 to 50 minutes until golden brown.
