Ingredients

  • 1 lb. flank steak
  • 1 bunch broccoli
  • 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. dry sherry
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 2 medium onions
  • 3 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp. fresh ginger root
  • 1/4 c. beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 drops red pepper sauce
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Add broccoli flowerets and cook until done.
  3. Remove from heat and drain.
  4. Rinse under cold water to chill.
  5. Drain well and set aside.
  6. Slice the flank steak into thin strips.
  7. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, dry sherry, cornstarch, and sugar to marinate the beef.
  8. Heat salad oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  9. Add chopped garlic and ginger; stir-fry until fragrant.
  10. Add marinated beef and cook until browned.
  11. Stir in sliced onions and cook until translucent.
  12. Pour in beef broth and red pepper sauce; bring to a simmer.
  13. Mix cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry and add to the sauce to thicken.
  14. Add the cooked broccoli and toss everything together until coated and heated through.
  15. Serve hot, optionally with steamed rice.
