Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 2 medium green peppers, chopped
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms (undrained)
  • 3 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 1 (16 oz.) can whole tomatoes (undrained), coarsely chopped
  • 3 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. dried whole oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 drops hot sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/4 c. Burgundy wine
  • hot cooked spaghetti

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef, chopped onions, chopped green peppers, chopped celery, and minced garlic in a large Dutch oven until the meat is browned, stirring to crumble the meat.
  2. Drain excess fat; stir in sliced mushrooms, tomato paste, chopped whole tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, dried oregano, Italian seasoning, salt, hot sauce, bay leaves, water, and Burgundy wine.
  3. Cover the Dutch oven; reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove bay leaves; stir in Burgundy wine.
  5. Serve the sauce over hot cooked spaghetti.
  6. Sprinkle with cheese before serving.
