Ingredients

  • 2 lb. round steak
  • 2 Tbsp. dried bread crumbs
  • 1 to 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. melted butter or margarine
  • 8 oz. can stewed tomatoes
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery

Instructions

  1. Pat the steak with a damp paper towel to remove excess liquid.
  2. Combine bread crumbs, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Place the steak on a wooden board and sprinkle with half of the bread crumb mixture.
  4. Pound the steak with a wooden mallet to tenderize and infuse flavor.
  5. Turn the steak and repeat the bread crumb sprinkling and pounding on the other side.
  6. Cut the steak into 6 pieces.
  7. Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
  8. Brown the meat in the melted butter until nicely colored.
  9. Add stewed tomatoes, sliced onions, Worcestershire sauce, chopped celery, and minced garlic to the Dutch oven.
  10. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  11. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 2 hours until the meat is tender and flavors meld.
