Ingredients

  • 1 bunch fresh broccoli
  • 3 oz. Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 4 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Trim off large leaves and tough ends of broccoli.
  2. Wash and separate broccoli into spears.
  3. Cook broccoli in boiling water for 10 minutes or until tender.
  4. Arrange broccoli spears in a greased 2-quart baking dish.
  5. Top with chopped hard-cooked eggs and sliced Cheddar cheese.
  6. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan over low heat; add flour and stir until smooth.
  7. Cook the mixture for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  8. Gradually add milk, cooking over medium heat and stirring until thickened and bubbly.
  9. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and salt.
  10. Pour the sauce over the broccoli mixture.
  11. Melt remaining 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan and stir in dry breadcrumbs.
  12. Brown the breadcrumb mixture lightly and sprinkle over the sauce.
  13. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
