Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 10 oz. package dates
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Mix fruit and nuts together.
  2. Pour boiling water and baking soda over the fruit and nuts.
  3. Add sugar and egg to the mixture.
  4. Stir in flour, salt, and vanilla.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
  6. Bake slowly at 225°F for 1 hour.
  7. Insert a knife into the loaf to check doneness; if it comes out clean, the loaf is ready.
  8. Serve with cream cheese.
