Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lentils
  • 1 lb. salt pork or smoked ham
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • crushed garlic cloves to taste
  • water

Instructions

  1. Soak lentils overnight.
  2. Drain the lentils.
  3. Place lentils in a deep pot. Add salt pork, onion, carrot, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add enough water to cover the ingredients.
  5. Add bouillon cubes.
  6. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
