Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 pound candy orange slices
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Slice the candy orange slices and toss with 1 cup of flour, ensuring each piece is dusted.
  2. Add chopped dates to the candy and flour mixture.
  3. Cream margarine and eggs together until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix 4 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk, and mix well.
  6. Stir in the chopped dates and candy orange slice mixture.
  7. Pour the batter into three greased and floured bread pans.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
