Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 20 caramels
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 or 2 cans apple pie filling
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, quick oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  5. Spread the apple pie filling evenly over the crust.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt the caramels with the sweetened condensed milk over low heat until smooth.
  7. Pour the caramel mixture over the apple filling.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before cutting into squares and serving.
