Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 6 slices American cheese, cut in half

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix ground beef, chopped onion, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and one can of tomato sauce in a large bowl.
  3. Pat half of the meat mixture into a loaf pan.
  4. Place cheese slices down the center of the meat mixture.
  5. Cover the cheese with the remaining meat mixture, pressing the edges together to seal.
  6. Spread the second can of tomato sauce over the top of the meat loaf.
  7. Bake for 1 hour or until cooked through.
