Ingredients

  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. crushed pecans
  • 1 (16 oz.) jar maraschino cherries, cut in half and drained

Instructions

  1. Cream together the Crisco and cream cheese.
  2. Add sugar, egg, and almond extract.
  3. Sift flour, salt, and soda together, then add to the mixture.
  4. Chill for 1 hour.
  5. Roll into 1-inch balls.
  6. Roll in crushed pecans.
  7. Put a cherry half in the center of each ball and press down lightly.
  8. Bake on the top rack of the oven at 350° for 10 minutes.
  9. The cookie should be white or light in color.
