Ingredients

  • chopped celery, broccoli tops or steamed asparagus
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 package Cheddar cheese
  • 2 cans cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 small carton half and half
  • slivered almonds

Instructions

  1. Line a 9 x 13-inch casserole dish with a 1/2-inch layer of chopped celery, broccoli tops, or steamed asparagus.
  2. Cut chicken into strips and set aside.
  3. Mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl.
  4. Roll chicken strips in the flour mixture until coated.
  5. Brown the coated chicken in butter in a skillet.
  6. Lay the browned chicken on top of the prepared vegetable layer in the casserole dish.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix Cheddar cheese, cream of chicken or mushroom soup, and half and half until well combined.
  8. Pour the cheese mixture over the chicken in the casserole dish.
  9. Top with slivered almonds.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes until bubbly and golden.
