Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soft shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Cream together the shortening, brown sugar, and egg thoroughly.
  2. Stir in the hot coffee.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. Blend in the chopped nuts.
  5. Spread the batter in a greased 13 x 9-inch oblong pan.
  6. Bake in a 350°F oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Cut into bars while still warm.
  8. Frost with a thin coating of Quick Coffee Cream Icing.
