Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted self‑rising flour
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • ½ cup melted butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups raisins (golden)
  • ½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Combine sifted self‑rising flour, brown sugar, cocoa, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a bowl.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Fold in raisins and chopped pecans.
  4. Grease and flour a 9 x 5 x 3‑inch loaf pan, then pour the batter in.
  5. Bake at 325°F for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.
  6. Let the loaf cool before slicing and serving.
