Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup cold margarine
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • melted butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, oregano, and salt.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Cut in cold margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Blend in cottage cheese, beaten egg, and yeast mixture.
  6. Turn out onto a well-floured surface.
  7. Knead the dough until smooth.
  8. Shape into a ball and place in a well-greased bowl.
  9. Brush the top with melted margarine; cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  10. Punch down the dough.
  11. Shape into desired forms.
  12. Brush with melted margarine; cover and let rise again until nearly doubled.
  13. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
  14. Serve warm.
