Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup carrots
  • 1/2 cup celery
  • 1/3 cup turnips
  • 1 1/2 cups tomatoes
  • 1 cup potatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • dash of parsley
  • a small pinch of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Chop the carrots, celery, turnips, tomatoes, potatoes, and onion finely.
  2. Cook the chopped vegetables slowly in 1 pint of water for 1 hour until tender.
  3. Add butter and flour to the cooked vegetables and blend everything together.
  4. Stir in 2 cups of milk and bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with cheese and accompanied by crackers.
