Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 3/4 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 to 2 1/2 c. unsifted bread flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • garlic salt

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water in a medium bowl.
  2. Let stand for 5 minutes until frothy.
  3. Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture.
  4. Stir in enough bread flour to make a smooth dough.
  5. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
  8. Roll the dough into a 14 x 9-inch rectangle.
  9. Cut the rectangle into 24 strips.
  10. Twist each strip into an 8-inch rope.
  11. Place the breadsticks 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets.
  12. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 20 minutes.
