- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla and grated orange rind.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Fold in chopped dates, nuts, maraschino cherries, and orange juice.
- Pour the batter into a greased Bundt pan.
- Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool before removing from the pan and serving.
