Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 cup flour
  • 2 cup nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 pound chopped dates
  • 1 large jar maraschino cherries
  • 1 tablespoon orange rind, grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla and grated orange rind.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking soda.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  7. Fold in chopped dates, nuts, maraschino cherries, and orange juice.
  8. Pour the batter into a greased Bundt pan.
  9. Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool before removing from the pan and serving.
