Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 2/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Soak chopped dates in boiling water and let cool.
  2. Add brown sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, and baking soda to the soaked dates and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and chopped nuts to the mixture, stirring until combined.
  4. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  5. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
