Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon cold butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in cold butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the milk, chopped dates, and chopped walnuts, mixing until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  5. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and pour over the batter.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.
  7. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipping cream and ground cinnamon.
