Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. Crisco
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, salt, cocoa, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.
  2. Add Crisco; pour in water, vanilla, and 2 tablespoons of buttermilk.
  3. Mix with a mixer at low speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Add remaining buttermilk, egg, and egg yolk; mix well.
  5. Pour the batter into cupcake pans.
  6. Bake in a 350°F oven for 20 minutes.
