Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2 cups seedless raisins
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 grain saccharin
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Boil water, shortening, raisins, nutmeg, and cinnamon together for 3 minutes.
  2. Let cool, then beat in eggs, one at a time.
  3. Dissolve salt, soda, and saccharin in water and add to egg mixture.
  4. Blend in flour sifted with baking powder.
  5. Drop from a spoon onto a greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 350°F.
