Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar (1/2 light, 1/2 dark)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted unbleached flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or English walnuts)
  • confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter, then add sugar, blending well.
  2. Set aside to cool.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  4. Blend flour and baking powder together, then add to the mixture.
  5. Add vanilla and chopped nuts, making sure to blend thoroughly.
  6. Spread batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for approximately 30 minutes.
  8. Check with a cake tester to ensure it is completely baked.
  9. While still warm, cut into squares and dust with confectioners sugar.
