Ingredients

  • 1 lb. crabmeat
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. instant minced onion
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 slices white bread, cubed
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Remove all cartilage from crab meat.
  2. In a medium-sized pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  3. Mix in flour, then slowly add milk, stirring constantly to keep free of lumps.
  4. Cook, stirring over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil and thickens.
  5. Mix in instant minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, and bread cubes.
  6. Cool the mixture.
  7. Fold in mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  8. In another pan, heat 2 tablespoons butter until lightly browned.
  9. Add crabmeat and toss lightly.
  10. Combine crab mixture with sauce mixture.
  11. Put the mixture in individual shells or a greased 1-quart casserole dish.
  12. Sprinkle paprika over the top.
  13. Bake at 450°F until hot, bubbly, and lightly browned on top, about 10 to 15 minutes.
