A hearty baked egg casserole layered with bread, cheese, ham, mushrooms, and onions, perfect for brunch or family gatherings with rich, savory flavors.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices stale homemade bread
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 lb. Cheddar cheese
  • 2 small cans mushrooms
  • 1/3 cup onion
  • 8 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 lb. shredded ham

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread into small squares.
  2. Put half of the bread in a buttered long cake pan.
  3. Pour half of the melted butter over the bread.
  4. Layer the remaining bread, butter, half of the cheese, one can of mushrooms, onions, and half of the ham.
  5. Mix together milk, salt, paprika, and eggs.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layered ingredients.
  7. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes or until done.
