  • 1 cup Pepperidge Farm stuffing
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine

  2. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast.
  3. Mix the cream of chicken soup, dry sherry or white wine, and milk together.
  4. Pour the mixture over the chicken breasts.
  5. Process the butter and stuffing to mix, or melt the butter and mix it with the stuffing.
  6. Sprinkle the stuffing mixture over the top of the chicken breasts.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding herbs like thyme or rosemary to the stuffing mixture. If you're out of dry sherry, chicken broth can be a great substitute for moisture. Make sure to cover the dish with foil during the first half of baking to keep the chicken moist, then uncover to allow the top to crisp up nicely. This dish is similar to other American recipes that feature chicken and creamy sauces.

Serving Suggestions

This elegant dish pairs beautifully with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal. For a comforting touch, serve it alongside Easy Cornbread Stuffing or mashed potatoes. A glass of white wine complements the flavors well, making it perfect for dinner parties or family gatherings.

Storage & Reheating

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F until warmed through, about 20 minutes. You can also microwave individual portions, but be careful not to overheat to avoid drying out the chicken.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Absolutely! While baby Swiss cheese adds a mild flavor, you can experiment with other cheeses like mozzarella or provolone for a different taste. Just ensure the cheese melts well to maintain the creamy texture of the dish.

Is there a way to make this dish healthier?

Yes, you can use low-fat cream of chicken soup and reduced-fat cheese to cut down on calories. Additionally, substituting whole grain stuffing for Pepperidge Farm can boost fiber content. Pairing it with a side of steamed vegetables like broccoli can also enhance the meal's nutritional value.

Can I prepare this dish in advance?

Definitely! You can assemble the dish a day ahead, cover it tightly, and refrigerate until you're ready to bake. Just allow it to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking to ensure even cooking. This makes it a perfect option for busy weeknights or gatherings.
