Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef chuck or stewing beef, cut in 2-inch chunks
  • 1 c. California Burgundy or other red dinner wine
  • 2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed beef consomme
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 medium size onions, sliced
  • 1/2 c. fine, dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 c. sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, wine, consomme, salt, pepper, and onions in a casserole.
  2. Mix bread crumbs with flour and stir into the meat mixture.
  3. Cover and bake in a slow oven (300° F) for about 3 hours or until beef is tender.
  4. Serve over rice or noodles with a tossed salad and fresh French bread.
