Tips & Substitutions

For a spicier kick, consider adding jalapeños along with the green chili peppers. If you don’t have creme fraiche, sour cream works well as a substitute. To save time, use pre-cut chicken pieces or rotisserie chicken. Make sure to sauté the chicken until golden brown for more depth of flavor.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this casserole hot, garnished with fresh chives for a pop of color. It pairs beautifully with a side of steamed vegetables or a simple green salad. Consider serving alongside Nellie'S Potatoes for a hearty meal. For a complete dinner, crusty bread or dinner rolls can also complement the dish well.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply place in a microwave-safe dish and heat until warmed through, stirring occasionally. Alternatively, reheat in a skillet over low heat, adding a splash of water if necessary to keep it moist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of meat in this casserole?

Yes, you can substitute chicken with turkey or even tofu for a vegetarian option. Just adjust the cooking time as needed, since different proteins may require different cooking durations.

Is it possible to make this dish ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the casserole up to the point of baking, then cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time if baking from cold.

What can I do to make this dish less spicy?

To reduce the heat, use mild green chili peppers or omit them altogether. You can also add a bit of sugar to balance the flavors and soften the spice. Additionally, serving it with a side of sour cream can help temper the heat.
