Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 oz. red food coloring
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs together until smooth.
  2. Make a paste of the red food coloring and cocoa powder.
  3. Add the cocoa and food coloring paste to the creamed mixture.
  4. Mix in salt, flour, and baking soda, then fold in vanilla, buttermilk, and vinegar.
  5. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
