Ingredients

  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 cup cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ginger root, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 pound ground beef or pork
  • 4 ounces shrimp, chopped
  • 40 wonton skins
  • cooking oil for deep fat frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the beaten egg, finely chopped cabbage, green onion, soy sauce, grated ginger, sugar, salt, sesame oil, minced garlic, and a dash of pepper.
  2. Add the ground beef or pork and chopped shrimp to the mixture and mix well until thoroughly combined.
  3. Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each wonton skin.
  4. Moisten the edges of the wonton skin with water and fold to form a sealed packet, pressing out any air.
  5. Heat cooking oil for deep frying in a wok or deep pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the wontons in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce if desired.
