Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 cups unsifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and undissolved dry yeast.
  2. Combine water, milk, and margarine in a saucepan over low heat until liquids are very warm (120° to 130°F); margarine does not need to melt.

  4. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes.
